New North Carolina Law Reduces Wait to Clear NC Criminal Records! Clearing NC Criminal Records with an Expungement Just Got Easier! Non-violent first time ex-offenders will soon be able to speed up the process to clear their North Carolina criminal records. Ex-offenders now have to wait 15 years after the charge to clear it. But this week Gov. Roy Cooper signed a law reducing the wait period. It will now be 10 years for felonies and five years for misdemeanors.
